Mildura To Host Cricket Victoria Second XI Match

Listen

Victoria's best emerging cricketers will return to Mildura next week when Cricket Victoria's Second XI takes on South Australia in a four-day clash at the Mildura Sporting Precinct.

The match, to be played from Monday to Thursday, marks the latest milestone in the growing partnership between Cricket Victoria and Mildura Rural City Council which has already delivered Victorian Men's and Women's pre-season camps, player pathway activities and community engagement opportunities in the region.

The fixture will feature a strong Victorian line-up of state-contracted players and emerging Premier Cricket talent, including Harry Dixon, Ash Chandrasinghe, Tom Rogers and Blake MacDonald, providing local cricket fans with the opportunity to watch high-performance cricket close to home.

Cricket Victoria General Manager of High Performance Graham Manou said Mildura had become an important destination for Victorian cricket programs.

"Mildura has proven to be an outstanding environment for our players and staff, and we're excited to return for this Second XI fixture," Manou said.

"The support we've received from the community and the quality of the facilities have made the region a valuable part of our high-performance program. Matches like this allow us to connect with local cricket communities while giving our emerging players quality competitive opportunities in a strong regional setting."

Councillor for Economic Development Rebecca Crossling said the match reflected the success of the partnership established earlier this year.

"This fixture is a fantastic example of how our partnership with Cricket Victoria is translating into real opportunities for our community," Cr Crossling said.

"Events like this help reinforce Mildura's growing reputation as a destination for high-performance sport. Importantly, it also inspires the next generation of cricketers by showing young local players the pathways available to reach the highest levels of the game."

The partnership between Cricket Victoria and MRCC supports the growth of cricket across the region through elite competition, participation initiatives and talent development programs, while helping position Mildura as one of regional Australia's leading destinations for sports tourism.

The match runs from Monday to Thursday with play scheduled to begin at 10.30am each day.
