Milestone For Graffiti Clean Up Across Melbourne Roads

VIC Premier

More than 100,000 square metres of graffiti has now been removed from roadsides - marking a major milestone as part of the Andrews Labor Government's maintenance blitz across the state's road network.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne today announced crews have spent hundreds of hours cleaning graffiti from some of the city's busiest freeways and other major arterial routes since September last year.

The Labor Government is delivering an extra $5.5 million to cleaning up the state's road network, on top of the $780 million already invested in maintaining Victoria's road assets.

Crews have carried out scheduled graffiti removal works along major metropolitan roads such as the Eastern Freeway, Monash Freeway, Westgate Freeway, Western Ring Road, and Frankston Freeway twice per month.

More inspections and cleaning are also being carried out along other busy arterial roads, freeway gantries and other high-profile locations.

Graffiti that is deemed to be offensive or dangerous to the public is also being removed more quickly under the roadside cleaning program.

Other works being delivered include more mowing and weed removal across both metropolitan and regional roads.

Members of the community can report instances of graffiti or any other damage by calling the dedicated VicRoads hotline on 13 11 71.

As stated by Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne

"We're delivering the largest road maintenance program in Victoria's history, with rebuilding, resurfacing and repair works carried out where they're needed most to ensure safety for road users, while also investing in how our road network looks."

"Drivers can expect to see this work continuing over the coming months, removing unsightly and offensive graffiti from our roadsides."
