Whether you're a beginner or a BMX bandit, there's never been a better time to hit the new-look Sycamore Recreation Reserve BMX track.
The Northern BMX Club (NBMX) is enjoying the revamped facilities at the Mill Park reserve after the BMX track was upgraded as part of a $1.4 million Council-funded project.
NBMX is Victoria's largest BMX club with 170 members and provides activities, including racing, coaching, and training at the track.
Club President Craig Graham said the track was run-down, but the redevelopment has made it safe for the public to use and is attracting more participants.
"Council has been superb in funding and supporting us to build a weather-proof track that can be used all year round, and that's allowed us to have it open to the public as well," Mr Graham said.
Administrator Chris Eddy said Council was excited to see more families enjoying the track at Sycamore Recreation Reserve.
"BMX riding is one of the few sports where the entire family can compete and is now an Olympic sport," Mr Eddy said.
"Since the upgrade at the reserve, we've welcomed more riders, from beginners to experts, who are keen to test their skills on the new track.
"This is a fantastic project for our whole community to participate in sport and enjoy the benefits that come with outdoor recreation."
The former pavilion was demolished, making way for a new pavilion that includes public toilets, a DDA-compliant accessible toilet, canteen and timekeepers/registry office.
Additional works included the redevelopment and resurfacing of the track, starter gate, track lighting and the continuation of the walking and cycling path network.
