The Minions are heading to the Western Downs and while they may be known for creating a little chaos, they will be helping residents and their families prepare for when disasters strike.
Ready Together Day returns to Miles on Saturday 19 September 2026, bringing together Western Downs Regional Council, Shell QGC, emergency services, and community organisations for a free family event focussed on disaster preparedness, community resilience, and practical safety information.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith said this year's event combines important emergency preparedness messages with plenty of family entertainment, including special appearances from the Minions.
"The Minions might be experts at finding trouble, but at Ready Together Day they'll be helping us encourage residents to prepare before trouble finds them," Cr Smith said.
"Whether it's storms, floods, bushfires or other emergency events, the simple steps we take today can make a big difference when disaster strikes.
"Being prepared isn't just about protecting your property. It's about ensuring your household has a plan, knows where to access reliable information, and is ready to respond when emergencies occur."
Ready Together Day forms part of the Disaster Resilience Project, which is delivered by Western Downs Regional Council and supported by Shell Australia as part of its social investment.
Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with emergency services and support agencies, learn about disaster preparedness, and discover the resources available before, during, and after an emergency event.
Mayor Smith said prepared communities recover more quickly and are better equipped to support one another during challenging times, which is why building resilience remains a priority for Council.
"We encourage residents, families, neighbours and community groups to come along, learn something new, and take simple actions that could make a big difference during future weather events," he said.
"Whether you live in town or on a rural property, being prepared can make all the difference when disaster strikes.
"Families will be able to speak directly with emergency response personnel, gather practical preparedness tips, and learn how to protect their homes, livestock, and pets.
"The free family event also recognises the strong community spirit that helps Western Downs residents face challenges together during fires, floods, storms, and drought."
