Minister Anand Addresses Haiti Political Crisis

Yesterday, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement:

"February 8, 2026, marked the end of the mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council in Haiti.

"This transition represents an important step toward stability for Haiti. Canada looks to Prime Minister Fils-Aimé and his cabinet to work diligently to improve the security situation and organize general elections to restore the sovereign and constitutional right of the Haitian people to choose their leaders.

"At this critical moment, the interests and well-being of the Haitian people must remain at the heart of all efforts.

"Canada stands ready to continue assisting the Haitian people to restore security, organize elections and ensure that Haitian solutions are front and centre."
