Minister Guilbeault Announces Reappointment Of Mohammed Hashim As Executive Director Of Canadian Race Relations Foundation

The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, today announced the reappointment of Mohammed Hashim as Executive Director of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) for a five-year term, effective October 13, 2025.

Mr. Hashim has been serving as Executive Director of the CRRF since October 2020. Under his leadership, the Crown corporation has expanded its presence and stature across Canada, advancing important national conversations on race relations, equity, and inclusion. He also leads the National Hate Crimes Taskforce in partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to better understand and address systemic challenges in combatting hate crimes, support communities, and equip the justice system to investigate and prosecute hate-related offences.

With over 20 years of experience as a human rights advocate, Mr. Hashim has had a multidisciplinary career spanning the non-profit sector, community organizations, the labour movement, government, and communications consulting. His work has consistently focused on innovative approaches to public policy and legislation to improve the lives of Canadians. A keen advocate and strategic leader, he has contributed to numerous legislative and policy agendas to address racism and hate in Canada.

The Canadian Race Relations Foundation was created by the Government of Canada as a Crown corporation in 1996, as part of the Japanese Canadian Redress Agreement, to reaffirm the principles of justice and equality for all in Canada. It is a Crown corporation within the Canadian Heritage portfolio.
