Minister Howlett's racing night-mare

Tasmanian Labor

Minister for Racing Jane Howlett has once again left Parliament with more questions than answers after her performance in Budget Estimates today.

Shadow Racing Minister Dean Winter said Ms Howlett's performance was astonishing.

"Today Tasmanians have once again seen how far out of her depth the Racing Minister is," Mr Winter said.

"There is no doubt the Minister loves racing, and her attendance record at race meets is impressive, however she needs to understand that there is more to this portfolio than attending the races.

"Ms Howlett fundamentally failed today to provide answers to simple questions that should be at her fingertips. She is clearly not across her brief."

Mr Winter said it was time for the Minister to take her head out the sand.

"Over the past few weeks Minister Howlett has performed extremely poorly across her portfolios.

"The racing industry is crucial to Tasmania, supporting 5,500 jobs and Labor wholeheartedly supports it. It's just too important to be left in the hands of this incompetent minister."
