The Crisafulli Government today acknowledges the retirement of Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy, one of Queensland's most respected police leaders.
Deputy Commissioner Chelepy has served Queensland for almost 40 years with professionalism, integrity and an unwavering commitment to community safety.
From his early days as a young constable through to senior leadership roles across South East Queensland, he earned the trust and respect of colleagues and communities alike.
His leadership was evident in every role he undertook, modernising State Water Police capability, shaping counter-terrorism policy, guiding one of Queensland's largest policing districts, and leading major disaster responses across floods, cyclones and fires.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as Operations Commander at a time of significant uncertainty, providing calm, steady direction.
Earlier this year, when called upon to step into the role of Commissioner, he did so without hesitation, as we work to restore safety where you live.
He led the QPS with strength and humility through complex reviews and major operational events.
On behalf of the Crisafulli Government and all Queenslanders, I thank Deputy Commissioner Chelepy for his dedicated service and outstanding leadership.
We wish him and his family every success in the future.
