Minister Joly to Visit Paris: France Trip Planned

Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will visit Paris, France, on February 20, 2023.

During her trip, Minister Joly will hold a bilateral meeting with Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, to discuss Russia's war against Ukraine as well as Canada and France's common resolve to support Ukraine as the world approaches the one-year mark since the full-scale Russian invasion.

The ministers will also discuss issues of common interest in the Indo-Pacific, such as the rule of law, economic growth and resilience, sustainable development and peace and security. In addition, the ministers will exchange perspectives on ways to further strengthen collaboration between Canada and France, particularly in relation to supporting transatlantic security and maintaining pressure on the Russian regime for its egregious actions.

Minister Joly will host a roundtable discussion to hear from French experts on the Indo-Pacific, European security and fragile democracies. She will highlight Canadian priorities and identify opportunities for bilateral foreign policy cooperation with France.

This visit will build on the already strong relationship between Canada and France and demonstrate the two countries' mutual and enduring commitment to upholding international law and defending human rights.
