Minister Joly to welcome German counterpart to Canada

Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Annalena Baerbock, Germany's Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, will visit Montréal, Quebec, from August 2 to 3, 2022. This will be Minister Baerbock's first official trip to Canada.

The ministers will meet to build on the strength of the transatlantic partnership between their countries in the face of growing geopolitical instability. They will reaffirm their mutual commitment to standing up for democracy and international peace and stability, and to holding President Vladimir Putin accountable for his unprovoked and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine.

Ministers Joly and Baerbock will also discuss ways to address the global food security crisis exacerbated by President Putin's war of choice.

On August 3, the ministers will also participate in an armchair discussion hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, where they will discuss the importance of the transatlantic partnership, and exchange perspectives on how Canada and Germany will collaborate in the face of increasing global challenges, including threats to international peace and stability, global food security, and climate change.
