The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, today issued the following statement:
"Today, Canada welcomes the United Kingdom, a long-standing friend and ally, as the newest member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
"In 2021, Canada was the first member to support the U.K.'s accession to the CPTPP.
As Canada's third-largest trading partner, the U.K. is one of our closest partners, helping advance our commitment to open, predictable and inclusive rules-based trade.
"With the U.K.'s accession, the CPTPP will account for just under 16% of the global economy and more than 580 million consumers. Together, CPTPP members are creating more good jobs, growing our economies, and driving inclusive opportunities for our businesses and workers.
"The U.K. shares Canada's dedication to open, predictable and inclusive rules-based trade. We look forward to working with the United Kingdom and the other CPTPP members to continue to advance this high-standard agreement for the benefit of all our people and workers."
