Minister Ng, WTO's Okonjo-Iweala Discuss Advancing Priorities

Yesterday, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, spoke with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), on the margins of the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Osaka, Japan.

Minister Ng thanked Director-General Onkonjo-Iweala for her dedication and leadership of the WTO, including her consistent participation in the Canada-led Ottawa Group.

Minister Ng underscored Canada's commitment to working closely with WTO members to find solutions on key priorities including e-commerce, agriculture and food security, fisheries subsidies, and dispute-settlement reform.

Minister Ng reaffirmed Canada's view that a rules-based multilateral trading system, with the WTO at its core, is essential to ensuring sustainable, resilient and inclusive global economic prosperity. She reiterated that the Ottawa Group will continue to support the crucial work to deliver a strong outcome at the upcoming 13th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13) scheduled for February 2024.
