The Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, spoke with Mauro Vieira, Brazil's Minister of Foreign Affairs, to advance negotiations with Mercosur and deepen commercial relations between Canada and Brazil.
Minister Sidhu underscored the value of continued engagement to advance negotiations for a free trade agreement with Mercosur. This reflects Canada's commitment to diversifying trade and building stronger economic partnerships across the Americas, while supporting economic growth and job creation in Canada, Brazil and other Mercosur countries. The momentum in the Canada-Brazil economic relationship continues to grow. Brazil is Canada's largest trading partner in South America, with two-way merchandise trade reaching $14.7 billion in 2025, a 15.7% increase from the previous year.
The ministers agreed to meet again during the World Trade Organization's 14th ministerial conference in Cameroon at the end of March.
