Minister Sidhu Talks With Ukraine's Environment, Economy

Yesterday, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, spoke with Oleksandr Kravchenko, Ukraine's Minister of Economy and Environment.

Minister Sidhu said he welcomed the official visit of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Canada last week, when he met with Prime Minister Mark Carney, and reiterated Canada's support for Ukraine's reconstruction and long-term resilience. Minister Sidhu noted Prime Minister Carney and President Zelenskyy's ambitious vision to elevate Canada and Ukraine's partnership, which includes building on the modernized Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement.

Minister Sidhu affirmed his commitment to working with Minister Kravchenko on next steps in advancing Canada-Ukraine trade relations. Minister Sidhu and Minister Kravchenko welcomed the recent progress made toward strengthening economic relations between Canada and Ukraine, with bilateral trade nearly doubling since 2022. In 2025, bilateral merchandise trade between Canada and Ukraine reached more than $800 million and Canada's merchandise exports to Ukraine totalled $556 million. Both ministers pledged to work together to continue to grow commercial relations in key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, mining and defence.
