Cricket Victoria is proud to recognise Mont Albert Cricket Club's Jack Wright as October's Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month, celebrating more than three decades of dedicated service to his club and community.
Jack's association with Mont Albert began in 1990 when he moved his family from Eildon. While he went on to play 115 senior games, his contribution beyond the boundary has left an equally lasting impression.
From cleaning and cooking to scoring, preparing facilities and supporting match days across all grades, Jack takes on the often unseen tasks that keep a community cricket club running. He does so without seeking recognition, bringing care and commitment to whatever needs doing.
Now in his 80s, Jack continues a much-loved weekly tradition: handwriting every team's scores and player highlights on the club whiteboard. It is a simple gesture with a meaningful impact, connecting juniors, seniors, families and supporters while ensuring achievements across the club are recognised.
Throughout his time at Mont Albert, Jack has served as a player, captain, coach, team manager and volunteer. Awarded Life Membership in 2007, his contribution has helped shape the welcoming club culture enjoyed by generations of members.
That connection extends to his family, with his two sons playing more than 600 games between them.
Known for his warm nature and mischievous sense of humour, Jack relates to people of all ages and backgrounds, helping everyone feel welcome and part of the club.
His contribution demonstrates the difference a committed volunteer can make, both through practical support and the everyday moments that bring a community together.
Cricket Victoria congratulates Jack on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his outstanding contribution to grassroots cricket.
Jack will receive a $200 Kookaburra Voucher as October's Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month!
