AusBiotech is delighted to announce that Senator the Hon Tim Ayres MP, Federal Minister for Industry and Innovation and Minister for Science, will join AusBiotech, the life sciences industry, international delegates and investors during Australia's biggest week in biotech this October.
The AusBiotech International Conference is the flagship event of Australia's biggest week in biotech — convening the breadth of the life sciences ecosystem with partners from around the world. With more than 1,600 participants expected this year, including delegates from more than 20 countries, the Conference will showcase companies and innovations set to shape the future health and wellbeing of Australians, while continuing to grow the impact of our innovations globally.
Minister Ayres' attendance underscores that biotechnology and life sciences are critical sectors for Australia's future — from delivering medical breakthroughs to strengthening high-tech manufacturing and sovereign capability, and driving productivity. It is a recognition that our sector is central not only to the nation's health, but also to its prosperity and place in the world.
AusBiotech CEO Rebekah Cassidy said the organisation was honoured to have Minister Ayres join the Conference at such a critical time for the sector.
"The world around us is changing. International markets and countries are hungry for health innovation. With biotechnology marked as a critical sector here in Australia, the time is now for deep conversations about our role in building global health solutions and strengthening Australia's national resilience and sovereign capabilities," Ms Cassidy said.
"This year's Conference comes at an important juncture. Australia's life sciences sector is maturing and ready to take on a greater role as part of our future innovation-driven economy at a time when the world is rapidly changing with shifting trade dynamics, health security challenges, aging populations, and a changing climate — all of which bring new health access challenges.
"The conversations set to unfold at this year's AusBiotech International Conference will not only showcase the extraordinary success and future potential of Australia's life sciences sector but also place it within the context of these global shifts and emerging opportunities that are shaping our sector's future worldwide."
With more than 2,900 life sciences organisations employing one in every 60 Australians, this sector is a national strength and has the potential to be a greater part of the global innovation stage.
AusBiotech 2025 will deliver an industry-leading program with more than 250 speakers across 60 sessions, creating a platform for discussion, debate and collaboration on the most pressing issues facing biotech and medical technology today.
"Year-on-year, our Conference breaks attendance records, a clear sign that the sector is growing in confidence and scale. In 2025, the world is not only watching Australia's life sciences sector, but also coming to Australia to partner, invest, and collaborate with Australian companies," said Rebekah.
