The Australian Constructors Association (ACA) welcomes today's announcement by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirming his Ministry, including the reappointments of Treasurer Jim Chalmers and the Hon Catherine King.
ACA CEO Jon Davies said the return of Catherine King as Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government provides confidence that critical initiatives—like the National Construction Strategy—will continue to progress.
"Minister King's ongoing leadership gives us confidence that momentum will be maintained on initiatives to boost productivity across the construction industry," said Mr Davies.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers has consistently highlighted the importance of lifting productivity to grow the economy, raise wages and improve living standards.
"Australia's productivity growth has slowed—and construction can help reverse that trend," said Mr Davies.
"Our industry is the engine room of the economy. Close the productivity gap and you reduce labour shortages, lower building costs and ease cost-of-living pressures for everyday Australians."
ACA also welcomes the appointment of Amanda Rishworth as Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.
"Rebalancing industrial relations is a golden opportunity to build not only a more productive construction sector but also a better industry culture," said Mr Davies.
"Industrial relations reform is essential to improving the performance of the construction sector and it's vitally important that the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations continues its work on the development and implementation of a blueprint to create a more sustainable industry."
The ACA stands ready to continue working with government and other stakeholders to deliver the reforms needed to lift productivity and strengthen the industry for the future.
