A bushwalker missing from the Blue Mountains area has been located following a multi-agency search.
The 71-year-old man was last seen in Megalong Valley, about 5.30am on Monday 2 February 2026.
Officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command, with the assistance of Police Rescue, SES, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Ambulance, commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.
About 3pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 February 2026), an activation of a personal locator beacon was detected, and police located the man in the vicinity of Megalong Valley.
Following a rescue operation, the man was winched and rescued at about 7.30pm on the same day.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Nepean Hospital for further assessment.
Acting Inspector Michael Brown from Blue Mountains Police Area Command says preparing essential tools can be a game changer in an urgent life or death situation to bush walkers.
"While Blue Mountains National Park is a well-known place for bushwalkers, it is important to always plan your trip carefully. The 71-year-old man had a personal locater beacon(PLB) and it was crucial in saving his life."
"Bushwalkers are urged to always submit trip intention form to the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services and to have enough clothing, food ,water and a personal locator beacon (PLB) with you. These items will help you stay hydrated, maintain your body temperature, and get helps promptly when you are lost." Acting Inspector Brown said.
