Drug and Firearms Squad officers have charged a man after a modified firearm and precursor chemicals were located inside a vehicle in Sydney's inner west.
About 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 28 December 2022), officers attached to the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad were patrolling the Concord area for a man wanted on an outstanding warrant, when they observed a man allegedly discard a car key and a small resealable bag onto a front lawn on Patterson Street.
Police then approached and spoke to a 36-year-old man before attempting to arrest him, where it's alleged he resisted arrest.
During a search of the surrounding area, the man's Volkswagen utility was located parked nearby. The vehicle was subsequently searched, and officers located a modified firearm concealed inside a duffle bag, a firearm magazine, ammunition, and precursor chemicals believed to be used in the manufacture of illicit drugs.
All items were seized for further forensic examination.
After the man was arrested, he was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of an unauthorised firearm, along with six additional offences including acquire prohibited firearm and ammunition subject to prohibition order, supply commercial quantity prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, and resist police in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court later today (Thursday 29 December 2022).
