Want to make a difference in your community?
The Moira Shire Community Leadership Program is back, and applications are now open!
This highly valued free program is your chance to build leadership skills, grow your network, and step into a role that matters.
The third intake for this program is now open and Council invites Moira residents aged 18 and over to apply between 1 July and 31 July. Designed to support new and emerging community and civic leaders across Moira Shire, the program provides practical training in public speaking, governance, strategic thinking, and policy, all while strengthening leadership values such as inclusion, accountability, and collaboration.
Participants will also explore how to lead in times of crisis, with content also covering emergency management, community preparedness, and resilience, the continued focus since the program's creation following the 2022 flood events.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM, encouraged community members to take advantage of the opportunity before applications close.
"Launched in 2024, this program began as part of our community's recovery after the 2022 floods, combined with a commitment from Council's Administrators to foster community and civic leadership in the lead up to the 2028 Council elections. The program has already made a really meaningful impact in our community by empowering people to step into leadership roles," Dr Emonson said.
"If you're passionate about making a difference, or you're involved in a local group, considering a future on Council, or simply passionate about your community, this is your opportunity to lead with purpose and I strongly encourage you to apply."
No matter your background, if you care about your community this program is for you.
Applications close 31 July. Visit Council's website to learn more and apply.

For me the biggest growth was meeting new people and networking."
James Rouel
"The leadership program has helped me grow as a leader, It's really beneficial, you get to make deep connections with other community members. A valuable lesson I learned from the program is that actions speak louder than words. Your message matters, but how you deliver and demonstrate it is just as important."
Emma Buglar
"I found a lot of value in this program, especially during the public speaking sessions. I learned how to project my voice, manage my speaking pace, and pause effectively. These skills have been incredibly beneficial when addressing a group of 120 kids and their families each week. I highly encourage anyone considering applying in the future to go for it!"
