Moira Shire Council was honoured to welcome Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, for a comprehensive two-day visit last week.

The tour of Moira was designed to highlight the region's diverse industries, cultural heritage, and strong volunteer community.

Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the Governor's visit provided a rare in-person opportunity to showcase the businesses and people driving Moira Shire's growth and community.

"We were delighted to host the Governor of Victoria to demonstrate firsthand the wonderful developments happening across our region," Dr Emonson said.

"The visit allowed us to highlight not only our significant economic progress in Moira Shire's key manufacturing and agriculture industries, but also the strong community spirit that makes the Moira region such a wonderful place to live."

The Governor's visit began at the Dharnya Centre in Barmah with a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony, followed by a briefing and tour of the new facilities.

The Governor visited Flavorite Katunga for a greenhouse tour and tomato tasting, Saputo Dairy for a cheese-making facility tour, and Cactus Country to learn about its tourism contribution.

A highlight of the visit was the tree planting ceremony in Numurkah to commemorate both the Governor's visit and the town's significant 150th anniversary celebrations. The ceremony was attended by members of the Numurkah 150th Anniversary Celebration Committee, and included a visit to the Numurkah Historical Society to view the special 150th anniversary display.

The two-day program concluded with a special morning tea celebrating the region's dedicated volunteers, whose contributions are fundamental to the strength and vibrancy of Moira Shire communities.

"Our volunteers are the backbone of our communities, and it was wonderful to have the Governor join us in recognising their invaluable contributions," Dr Emonson said.

"From major agricultural enterprises to unique tourism attractions, and from our rich cultural heritage to our army of volunteers, this visit truly showcased the diversity and strength of the Moira region."
