- Mon Repos Turtle Encounter offers a rare chance to experience endangered marine turtles up close.
The Crisafulli Government is encouraging keen wildlife observers to get in quick for the opening of ticket sales for the annual Turtle Encounter at Mon Repos Conservation Park.
Visitors can see marine turtle nesting, and weeks later, hatchlings beginning their journey to the sea from the home of the largest population of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland.
Mon Repos is also the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting site in the South Pacific, with this critical habitat supporting the survival of the endangered loggerhead turtle.
Last season marked the best nesting season for loggerhead turtles in more than 50 years. Along the Woongarra Coast there were 516 loggerhead turtles, 12 flatbacks turtles and three green turtles nesting.
Together, they created approximately 2,124 nests and around 265,968 eggs were laid.
Under the Crisafulli Government's visionary 20 year tourism plan, Destination 2045, ecotourism opportunities are being maximised to drive up visitor numbers, and boost local economies.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the turtle experience was one of Queensland's annual highlights.
"The Mon Repos Turtle Encounter offers a rare chance to witness the wonder of nature and turtle life cycle," Minister Powell said.
"I invite all visitors to become part of the conservation of these endangered species and get to marvel as turtles come ashore to nest and hatchlings embark on their first journey to the sea.
"We are making it easier for visitors by hosting a one stop shop to access these tours alongside our incredible rangers."
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the turtle encounters were a fantastic family-friendly activity.
"Bundy has beautiful beaches, you can snorkel and dive the reefs, visit the rum distillery and the turtle encounter at Mon Repos is a must!" said Mr Bennett.
Turtle tour season begins on 8 November 2025 and continues until 22 March 2026.
To protect nesting and hatching turtles, only Turtle Encounter tour participants are allowed in Mon Repos Conservation Park and on Mon Repos beach after 6pm.
