Every week in Australia, more than 400,000 people visit their local neighbourhood houses, and Neighbourhood House Week (11–17 May) celebrates the simple moments that build that belonging.
"It's all about creating spaces where people are welcomed and get to be part of something together," Notting Hill Neighbourhood House manager Bre Wilkinson said.
Notting Hill's shared community lunches are often a first step into community life. Over the past year, they've served more than 1,500 meals, bringing neighbours together to chat, make friends and discover what else the house offers.
Their Pride in Community events continue to grow, with support from Council's community grants program, creating safe, local spaces for LGBTIQA+ residents and allies.
"By the end of the night people were already asking how they could help organise the next one," Bre said.
There are 10 neighbourhood houses across Monash. Why not knock on the door of your local and see what's on this Neighbourhood House Week?
