Council is pleased to announce that the Monbulk Urban Design Framework (UDF) has been nominated for the Australian Urban Design Awards.

The UDF – a document that maps out future development, and how a town will look over 10-20 years – was formally adopted by Council in November, 2023, after extensive community engagement.

Chandler Ward Councillor, David Eastham, said the UDF was a deserving nominee for the awards.

"The UDF is a document that builds on the Monbulk Community Plan and Monbulk Structure Plan, and has been supported by significant feedback from the community, local businesses, and advice from technical experts," Cr Eastham said.

"It does more than just say where carparks should be, it builds on what residents, workers and visitors love about the area, and provides guidelines, standards and plans to inform Council's long-term decision making.

"It will mean that any new developments fit seamlessly in with the existing environment, so Monbulk can be a functional, enjoyable and attractive place to live in and visit going well into the future.

"I'm so pleased that the UDF has been nominated for this award. Congratulations to the many staff members who worked on this document, and a huge thank you to the community volunteers - I look forward to hearing the result."

The Australian Urban Design Awards recognise contemporary Australian urban design projects of the highest quality, and encourage cities, towns and communities across the country to strive for best practice.

The design award winners will be announced on 18 March.
