Over 70 leading Mongolian companies came together to chart a more sustainable future at a national business conference on integrity and compliance, jointly organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI).
The event, held in Ulaanbaatar on 6 November 2025, marked a key milestone in the ILO's "Leader" programme on Environmental, Social and Governance principles (ESG), which helps employer organizations promote responsible business conduct and strengthen corporate governance and social responsibility across emerging economies.

For Mongolia's business community, the timing is significant. As the country advances economic development under its national "Vision 2050" framework, it faces growing global and regional pressures around responsible business conduct, sustainable infrastructure and human rights-related risks. A recent OECD report covering Mongolia identified business and infrastructure sectors as needing stronger governance, stakeholder engagement and labour protections to fully realise the benefits of sustainable investment.

The next step in ILO collaboration with Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) will be to launch in 2026 a tailored ESG training programme for companies delivered through MNCCI's Business Integrity Center along with new advisory services that build on practical self-assessment tools which will enable Mongolian companies to benchmark their performance against international standards, global norms, and best practice.
The ILO is proud to collaborate with MNCCI and Mongolia's business leaders through the LEADER programme. Together, we're helping companies turn ESG principles into everyday practice, building stronger, more responsible enterprises that drive sustainable growth and competitiveness. As Mongolia advances its Vision 2050 development goals, the ILO and MNCCI's partnership under the LEADER programme is set to deepen. By strengthening ESG leadership in the private sector, the initiative contributes to a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Mongolian economy.

Launched in February 2024, the LEADER programme is part of the ILO's broader effort via its Bureau for Employers' Activities (ACT/EMP) to build the capacity of Employer and Business Membership Organisations (EBMOs) in emerging markets to drive ESG improvements across member companies.
