Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) Far Northern have charged three members and associates of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) Cairns chapter with fraud offences.
It will be alleged on 8 September 2023, a 38-year-old Kewarra Beach man was driving a white Nissan utility on the Bruce Highway at Bororen and was detected travelling at 74km/h in a 60km/h zone.
He was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice (TIN) for exceeding the speed limit and allegedly filed an online application fraudulently citing a 37-year-old man as the driver of the vehicle at the time of the traffic offence.
Police allege the 37-year-old man who claimed the infringement is a member of the Raiders OMCG.
On 14 August 2026, he was charged with one count of fraud - dishonestly gain benefit/advantage.
He was issued a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 23 September.
On 30 October 2023, it will be alleged a 38-year-old Brinsmead man was detected using his mobile phone whilst driving a (vehicle make/model) on the Pacific Motorway in Upper Coomera.
It will be alleged the man made an official declaration stating the driver was a 36-year-old Brinsmead woman known to him.
The woman allegedly made a Statutory Declaration fraudulently declaring she was driving the vehicle at the time of the offence.
On 8 September 2026, MOCS detectives executed a search warrant at a Brinsmead address.
The 38-year-old Brinsmead man was charged with one count of fraud - dishonestly gain benefit/advantage.
A 36-year-old Brinsmead woman was charged with one count each of fraud - dishonestly gain benefit/advantage and false declarations.
They were both issued a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 7 October.
Officer in Charge of the Major and Organised Crime Squad Far Northern Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said police are committed to detecting crime committed by OMCGs, no matter the scale.
"Traffic offences may seem less serious than some of the violent and serious criminal activity these groups are linked to, but these charges reinforce the fact that no one is above the law," Detective Senior Sergeant Grace said.
"Anyone making false declarations and perverting the course of justice will be targeted by police."
