Dyno Nobel's site in Moranbah, a business of Incitec Pivot Limited made the generous contribution of their extra allocated water that would otherwise remain in their reserves.
To mark the occasion, Council's Water and Waste Standing Committee Chair Councillor Simon West and Director of Water and Waste Gary Murphy presented an official letter of gratitude to Dyno Nobel Moranbah's Site Manager Peter Henderson last week on behalf of Isaac Regional Council and the Moranbah community.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker spoke of her appreciation and admiration of the local Moranbah business' contribution.
"On behalf of Council and the Moranbah community, we're appreciative of Dyno Nobel Moranbah's generosity and consideration for the benefit of their community," Mayor Baker said.
"On average, the township of Moranbah would use up to 2800 megalitres a year. 50ML is about five to six days worth of water supply for the Moranbah community and would cost Council about $133,000 to purchase.
"It's money that can be better spent on other water projects and initiatives in Moranbah and will make a significant impact to the current year's water supply arrangements."
Dyno Nobel Moranbah Site Manager Peter Henderson said the donation was a great outcome following discussions with Council about water supply allocations.
"Our agreement with Council is a win-win, for us and the community," Mr Henderson said.
"We wanted to ensure our water was put to good use and talked to Council about how we could help increase supply for the community. Our people are particularly pleased that we have been able to give back to Moranbah which is home to the vast majority of our 170-strong workforce," Mr Henderson said.
Cr West said this kind gesture is welcomed with open arms.
"Due to Council's Preferred Supplier Arrangement, we would not have been able to purchase the donated allocation," Cr West said. "Council can purchase water from resource companies or through gifted allocations, or purchase water from Sunwater on the open market at commercial rates for community use.
"We really appreciate that Dyno Nobel Moranbah has made a contribution to the Moranbah community which is a significant gesture and greatly appreciated."
Council looks forward to fostering this positive relationship with Dyno Nobel Moranbah for the benefit of the Moranbah community and the town's future water supply.
