Commercial property owners in the city centre will benefit from a series of waivers and deferrals on their annual City Centre marketing and Improvement Levy for the upcoming financial year, allowing them to support their tenants throughout this period.
The Government remains committed to the outcomes the levy supports, including the City Grants program, and improved cleaning and maintenance through the City Place Team.
Through the Jobs for Canberrans recruitment program the City Renewal Authority has worked with Transport Canberra and City Services to create 12 additional roles in the City Place Team to boost the standard of the City Renewal Precinct’s public spaces.
This levy reduction is in addition to the more than $350 million in economic support already announced by the ACT Government. This has included incentives for commercial property owners to reduce their rents, delayed commercial rate notices and payroll tax deferrals.
The funds from the levy, collected from commercial property owners in the city centre, are used by the City Renewal Authority for events and activities in the CBD, as well as extra cleaning and maintenance.
In addition to the halving of the levy for the 2020-21 financial year, the Government will also defer the collection of the remaining 50 per cent by six months until February 2021 in order to give property owners and businesses a chance to start their rebound from the current financial conditions.
