More education opportunities for students in Mount Duneed

Liberal Party Victoria

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will invest $1 million to begin planning for a new Mount Duneed Secondary College.

The corner of Sovereign Drive and Boundary Road has long been earmarked as the future site of the new school.

The nearby Oberon High School is reaching capacity and recently saw more than 800 people attend an information session for prospective Year 7 students.

The proposal to construct a new secondary college will cater to the already significant demand, but will also welcome graduating students at the neighbouring Mirripoa Primary School.

Shadow Minister for Education, David Hodgett, said this was an important step in delivering critical infrastructure for the growing community.

"To support Victorian families, we will invest in new and improved education facilities across the state, and invest in the programs that benefit our students, like our Free Healthy Lunches plan."

"It is the Government's responsibility to provide local, capable and accessible school infrastructure, especially in areas of growth, and the Andrews Labor Government has ultimately failed at this."

Liberal Candidate for South Barwon, Andrew Katos, said this was a priority for the entire community.

"Mount Duneed and Armstrong Creek have grown and are continuing to grow, so it is important that we plan for the future and deliver a new secondary college."

"Both Grovedale College and Oberon High School are nearing capacity so it is important to start the process for a new secondary college for the area."
