More Healthcare On Way For Swan Hill

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is continuing to deliver more world-class health facilities for Victoria's northwest, with the redevelopment of Swan Hill District Health reaching a major milestone.

Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne today announced the new multi-storey community health facility has reached structural completion, meaning families and locals are one step closer to accessing more health services closer to home in brand new, modern facilities.

The first stage of the project delivered a new and expanded emergency department, which more than doubled the amount of treatment spaces for patients. This includes a four-bed short-stay unit, an isolation room and a behavioural assessment room.

The second stage will deliver a new multi-storey community health facility, providing more space for mental health services including new consulting rooms and modern, fit-for-purpose workspaces for local health care workers.

More than 3000 cubic metres of concrete, 45 tonnes of structural steel and a whopping 277 tonnes of steel reinforcement have helped the facility rise from the ground up.

Now that stage 2 has reached structural completion, work on the building's facade and internal fit-out will now commence. The new building is located right next door to the new, bigger and better emergency department.

On track for completion next year, it will also feature a new cafeteria and lounge area creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for patients and staff.

The project is the second and final stage of the $65.7 million redevelopment at Swan Hill District Health - jointly funded by the Allan Labor Government with an investment of $35.7 million and the Albanese Labor Government contributing $30 million towards the project.

Designed in consultation with hospital staff and the community, the Swan Hill District Health redevelopment will support the hospital to meet the region's growing healthcare needs for generations to come.

As stated by Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne

"Right across Victoria, we're getting on with expanding and redeveloping a range of regional hospitals - because no matter where you live, you deserve access to the very best care."

As stated by Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas

"The new facilities at Swan Hill District Health will give local healthcare workers the very best facilities, to provide the very best care to the local community."
