More Homes Are Being Built Than Ever Before

There are more homes under construction in South Australia right now than there ever has been before as the Malinauskas Labor Government continues to drive policies to increase housing supply in the state.

The total number of dwellings under construction at the end of September 2025 was 14,916, an increase of almost 800 homes compared with June and an increase of 1,000 homes year-on-year, according to data released this week by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The record represents a 5.4% boost from three months earlier and a 7.2% increase year-on-year, surpassing the national average (4.2% increase year-on-year)

In the year ending in September 2025, 12,756 homes were completed in South Australia, eclipsing the number of homes completed in the previous year to September 2024 (11,841).

Homes commenced have also surged to 3,718 in the September quarter, up 14% in South Australia, to be 27% higher than a year earlier.

The ABS Building Activity data complements the ABS Building Approvals data released earlier this month, showing a surge in housing supply with home approvals increasing by 15.4% year-on-year in seasonally adjusted terms.

South Australia's housing momentum is a direct result of the Malinauskas Government's investments and policies aimed to supercharge housing supply and build more homes for South Australians.

Should the Malinauskas Government be re-elected, the momentum would continue with a $500 million pre-sale guarantee fund that will unlock even more apartment developments in the CBD and further accelerate the delivery of more homes for South Australians.

As put by Peter Malinauskas

The facts show that the housing momentum that we are seeing in South Australia is unprecedented.

We have thrown everything at addressing the national housing crisis.

As a result of that, more homes are being built for South Australians right now than at any point in history.

We are determined not to stop here.

This data is a marker of a Government fully committed to continue supercharging housing growth as Adelaide continues to build up and out.

As put by Nick Champion

Our government has undertaken a busy four years of doing everything we can to build more homes for South Australians.

We have unlocked an unprecedented amount of land, delivered the first net increase to public housing and laid the pipes of the homes for the future.

The ABS data shows what we are doing is working, demonstrating an extraordinary amount home homes being built and being completed.
