The Allan Labor Government is making it easier for racegoers to leave the car at home and jump aboard the tram, train or bus to get to Flemington for this year's Melbourne Cup Carnival - with more than 1,000 extra services added to the timetable.
Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams today announced the extra services will be added to the normal timetable which already includes more than 2,200 services across the network.
On Melbourne Cup Day, an additional 300 train services will operate - allowing trains to run every six-to-seven minutes to Flemington, helping racegoers get to the racecourse and home sooner.
Train services will run regularly in and out of Flemington Racecourse Station, with trains departing from Flinders Street, Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations.
On Oaks Day, an extra 180 trains will run to Flemington - and on Stakes Day, an additional 200 train services will operate.
Yarra Trams will also provide additional shuttle trams between Flinders Street Station and Flemington Showgrounds on all key days of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
To ensure the day goes smoothly, Metro Trains' control centre will be monitoring CCTV to quickly respond to safety incidents and allow for quick emergency services response.
