The Crisafulli Government is backing grassroot organisations to bring communities together and celebrating the cultural practices of all Queenslanders through Round 2 of the Celebrating Multicultural grants program.
More than 70 community organisations and their cultural events have benefitted from a share of more than $500,000 through Round 2 of the program.
Funding recipients have received support for multicultural events, including intercultural sporting events, taking place between 1 July and 31 December 2026.
The Celebrating Multicultural Queensland grants program has been split into two $500,000 funding rounds each year to ensure year-round support.
It's just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for multicultural communities across the State and delivering a plan for Queensland's future, after a decade of decline under Labor.
The Crisafulli Government is committed to building stronger communities across Queensland after the former Labor government treated our multicultural communities as nothing more than a box-ticking exercise during their decade of decline.
This year's events funded through Round 2 are spread across Queensland:
- The Multicultural Festival on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait
- Fiji Day Pasifika Multicultural Community Festival in Cairns
- Townsville's Greek Day Out
- Chanukah Jewish Festivals in Cairns and Townsville
- One Long Table Multicultural Food Festival in Chinchilla
- Good Shepherd Parish Multicultural Festival in Mount Isa
- Mackay's Global Grooves Festival
- Taste of the World Cultural Festival in Rockhampton
- Bundaberg's Multicultural Fair
- Lockyer Valley Festival of Cultures in Gatton
- South Burnett Multicultural Celebration in Kingaroy
- The 6th Multicultural Moon Festival on the Sunshine Coast
- Ukrainian Festival - Celebrating 35 Years of Independence in Brisbane's south
- PNG Independence Cultural Day in Logan
- Solomon Islands Cultural Day in Ipswich
- The Afghani Festival on the Gold Coast
Minister for Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson said the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program would continue to support locally led cultural events which bring communities together in 2027.
"These grants help communities in every corner of Queensland deliver local festivals and events that bring people together, celebrate cultural heritage while bringing people together with shared values and shared understanding," Minister Simpson said.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering on our commitment to support and amplify the impact of community events run by grassroots organisations which build bridges and opportunities.
"The Celebrating Multicultural Queensland programs helps to break down barriers and deliver more opportunities across our State."
The Crisafulli Government has worked to ensure this support continues next year, with funding applications now open for multicultural events and festivals scheduled in the first half of 2027.
Eligible organisations can apply for grants of up to $20,000 to deliver multicultural events, cultural celebrations and intercultural sporting events taking place between 1 January and 30 June 2027.
