More support for Tasmania's Youth Climate Leaders

Peter Gutwein,Premier & Minister for Climate Change

Tasmania is a leader in climate action and climate change is an important issue for many of our young people.

This is why we will support our future climate leaders through a $50,000 grant to help Greening Australia deliver the Tasmanian Youth Climate Leaders' Program next year.

The Program presents students with a unique opportunity to take on leadership roles to address climate change and sustainability issues faced by their local Tasmanian communities.

Greening Australia's Ruby Finlen said "Greening Australia and the young volunteers we work with are delighted with the Tasmanian Government's support for our Youth Climate Leaders Program.

This program empowers the young people of Tasmania to take action for the climate at a local, national and global scale…"

The students identify local issues, and implement significant actions including nature-based solutions, food security, sustainable transport and energy efficiency. The Program received international recognition this year, and has now grown to include around 800 students from 30 schools state-wide.

I congratulate all involved and look forward to seeing the program grow next year.
