Tasmanian businesses are bucking the national trend and looking to hire more local workers, new Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows.
The ABS Job Vacancy data for November shows job vacancies in Tasmania increased over the month by 12.8 per cent - compared to the national average, which saw a reduction of 5.2 per cent.
Job vacancies in Tasmania are 108 per cent higher than pre-COVID levels.
Acting Premier and Treasurer, Michael Ferguson, said this shows an increasing confidence in Tasmanian businesses as they continue to look to employ more workers.
"This comes off the back of ABS Labour Force data for the same period, which shows our State employing a record 290,000 Tasmanians, with the highest participation rate on record," he said.
"More Tasmanians are employed today than ever before, and today's job vacancy data shows there is still strong demand among Tasmanian businesses for more workers and more jobs are being made available.
"This is very positive news and once again reflects the confidence businesses have in our nation-leading economy and in the direction of our State as we look to the future with optimism.
"It demonstrates that the Rockliff Liberal Government's clear plan to build a strong economy and deliver jobs growth is working and we will continue to do all we can to keep this momentum going."
