Checks were made on more than 350 alleged domestic violence offenders during a high profile operation across Central Sydney.
During yesterday's (Friday 9 August 2019) Operation Praesidio, police made 357 Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) compliance checks and visited the homes of 20 high-risk domestic violence offenders.
Central Metropolitan Region Commander Assistant Commissioner Michael Willing said proactive policing in the Kings Cross, Surry Hills and Eastern Suburbs Police Area Commands brought on the arrest of three domestic violence offenders, with four charges being preferred.
During the operation police -
Completed 357 ADVO compliance checks
Served eight AVO Service Final Orders
Completed 47 Bail Compliance checks
Generated 14 intelligence reports
Searched 12 people
Issued three move along directions
Made two drug detections
Issued one infringement notice
Completed five random breath tests
"Operations such as this draw on the combined knowledge of domestic violence units from across the region to track offenders," Assistant Commissioner Willing said.
"The bottom line on operations such as this is that victims and potential victims have a feeling of safety and a feeling of confidence they will not be subject to re-offending.
"It doesn't matter where you are in Sydney or the rest of NSW - offenders must be held to account.
"The Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Teams are part of the strategy to target recidivist offenders and reduce reoffending rates. It is important to have specialist police proactively targeting crimes of this nature, so we can effect change on the ground."
While other similar operations have been conducted across the state, Operation Praesidio is the first combined Central Metropolitan Region campaign to target family and domestic violence offenders.
