Twelve people joined us at Kempsey Library for a wonderful Author Talk with Maggie Walters, author of Fractured Motherhood.
Maggie shared her story with honesty, warmth and remarkable openness, giving attendees an insight into what it's like to live with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). She spoke about why the condition occurs and helped break down some of the myths and stigma that can surround this often-misunderstood disorder.
The conversation also explored the writing of Fractured Motherhood and the important role Maggie's family played in bringing the memoir to life. She spoke beautifully about her adopted children and the many kitchen table conversations they shared, where family members were able to offer their own thoughts and reflections as the book took shape.
Along the way, Maggie also shared stories of her love for the Philippines, its people, culture, food and breathtaking beaches, which she joked give Australia's coastline a run for its money.
It was an engaging and thought-provoking afternoon, filled with honest conversation, personal stories and plenty of opportunities for discussion. We thank Maggie for sharing her experiences so generously with our community.
