More Victorian Drivers Doing Right Thing

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is keeping Victorians safe - rolling out 35 new fixed cameras, two point‑to‑point networks and tougher distracted‑driving and seatbelt enforcement as part of our Road Safety Action Plan.

As a result, Victorians are making smarter and safer choices on our roads - but too many people are still putting lives on the line.

New road safety camera statistics for April to June 2025 show infringements dropped by 11 per cent, with 322,762 offences recorded.

Speeding remains the biggest risk, with more than 251,000 offences detected in just three months.

Red‑light offences rose slightly compared to last year - driven by new red‑light cameras switching on at high‑risk intersections across Victoria.

One of the busiest hotspots was at Rosanna Road and Darebin Street in Heidelberg, where close to 7,000 drivers were caught putting others at risk.

Across the full financial year, more than 1.1 million infringements were issued - a 22 per cent decrease.

Ninety‑nine per cent of drivers are doing the right thing. That's a strong sign behaviour is improving but thousands are still speeding, driving distracted or running red lights.

Police remain out on the roads to catch those doing the wrong thing and anyone getting complacent.

The road safety camera network continues to save lives. Research from the Monash University Accident Research Centre shows a 47 per cent drop in casualty crashes at fixed camera sites.

Every dollar raised from road safety cameras goes straight to the Better Roads Victoria Trust - funding road resurfacing, bridge strengthening and other upgrades.

As stated by Minister for Police Anthony Carbines

"Most Victorians are doing the right thing - but too many people are still speeding, running red lights or driving distracted and one reckless decision is all it takes for a tragedy."

"We'll keep investing in the technology and enforcement that protects lives because every Victorian deserves to get home safely."
