The Allan Labor Government is giving more Victorian families a place to call home, with families now moving into 92 new social housing homes in the heart of Footscray.
Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing today visited the $52 million development on Wightman Street to officially open the new homes and welcome residents.
The 92 one, two, and three-bedroom homes will give more families in Melbourne's growing west the security of a home within walking distance of transport and services, Footscray Train Station, the Maribyrnong River Trail and Footscray Market.
The homes are modern and energy-efficient, helping families stay warm in winter and cool in summer while reducing power bills. 75 per cent of the homes will go to families on the priority housing list, ensuring people who need homes the most can stay connected to their community.
It's all part of the Labor Government's landmark $6.3 billion investment to deliver more than 13,300 social and affordable homes across Victoria - with 11,100 underway or complete. More than 6,300 families have already moved into or are getting ready to move into their new homes.
More than $180 million has been invested in the City of Maribyrnong to deliver 389 new social and affordable homes, with 251 already completed.
As stated by Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing
"These new homes mean more Victorian families can live close to great public transport, schools, shops and community connections - right in the heart of Footscray."
"Having a safe and secure home is the foundation for a better future, and we're determined to continue to deliver more homes and well-planned, accessible and liveable communities in Melbourne's west."
As stated by Member for Footscray Katie Hall
"This project is about giving families the stability of a home while staying connected to everything that makes Footscray such a great place to live."
