Jane Howlett,Minister for Women
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working hard to promote equality and opportunities for women and girls right across our State.
Today, I am very proud to be able to announce that in line with the targets in our Women on Boards Strategy 2020-2025, as at 31 March this year, 47.92% of all positions on Government Boards and Committees, were filled by women.
We are on track to achieve 50 per cent representation later this year – the first time this has been achieved in Tasmania's history.
That means 437 of the 912 Tasmanian Government board and committee positions, were filled by women as at 31 March 2021.
When we came to Government in 2014 every Head of a Government agency was a male, and the percentage of women on government boards was in the 20's. There was no women's portfolio, and no women on boards target or strategy.
To further support our work, we are rolling out a range of policy initiatives aimed at supporting women into work, education, financial independence and make sure they are empowered and supported to demand workplace flexibility, safe work practices and equal opportunities.
Our strong majority Liberal Government has a clear plan to secure the future for women and girls in Tasmania.
