JOINT STATEMENT
  • The Crisafulli Government secures the site for the $60 million Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence. Construction starts 2026 at the Moreton Bay Central site to support local jobs and manufacturing.
  • Part of the Crisafulli Government's $201.1 million plan to build three new TAFE Centres of Excellence and a Marine Centre of Excellence, to bolster our skilled workforce.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future, and a fresh start for Queensland.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering new training infrastructure by securing the land for the Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence to rebuild Queensland's skills pipeline.

After a decade of decline this is another way the Crisafulli Government is getting on with delivering for Queensland.

Under Labor, training facilities lagged behind population growth, and regions like Moreton Bay were left without the infrastructure to meet demand.

By contrast, the Crisafulli Government's Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence will give Queenslanders the chance to train locally, work locally, and build a career in industries that drive our economy – construction, engineering, electrotechnology and advanced manufacturing.

Located at the Moreton Bay Central site in Petrie, the land will be transferred from the City of Moreton Bay to the Crisafulli Government.

The TAFE Centre of Excellence will also include an Advanced Manufacturing Hub, supporting Moreton Bay's billion-dollar manufacturing industry and creating new opportunities for Queenslanders to thrive in high-tech, high-demand sectors.

Its location – adjacent to the future Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre, a key venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games – positions it as a strategic investment in the region's long-term growth.

The Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence is one of four new Centres being delivered under the Crisafulli Government's $201.1 million plan to rebuild Queensland's skills pipeline, alongside Caloundra, Rockhampton, and Southern Moreton Bay Islands.

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Ros Bates, said the Moreton Bay Centre of Excellence was a cornerstone of the Government's plan to rebuild Queensland's skills system and deliver the fresh start Queenslanders voted for.

"Labor presided over a skills shortage, allowing the skills gap to widen while demand for housing and infrastructure soared," Minister Bates said.

"The Crisafulli Government is reversing a decade of decline, and rebuilding TAFE from the ground up.

"The Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence will deliver world-class training in industries that drive our economy and create good jobs for Queenslanders. We're backing Moreton Bay with the skills, facilities and opportunities locals need to thrive.

"While we are delivering the new TAFE Centre of Excellence, there is much more to be done to deliver for Queensland's future, and we remain committed to delivering the fresh start we promised."

Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last said the Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence will serve as a launchpad for the next generation of manufacturers.

"Manufacturing is Queensland's sleeping giant, and the Crisafulli Government's investment in this Centre reflects our commitment to creating the skilled workforce needed to drive it forward," Minister Last said.

Member for Glass House Andrew Powell said the new TAFE Centre of Excellence would create an important legacy.

"This new TAFE Centre of Excellence is not just an investment in skills, it's an investment in the future of our region," Minister Powell said.

Member for Redcliffe, Kerri-Anne Dooley said this investment was critical because businesses were crying out for skilled workers across the growing region.

"By delivering this TAFE Centre of Excellence, the Crisafulli Government is building the pipeline of skilled workers we need to deliver housing, infrastructure and the 2032 Games," Ms Dooley said.

Member for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan said she was proud to see this investment delivered for the community.

"The Centre of Excellence will be a game-changer for Moreton Bay and Pumicestone, creating opportunities for local talent and strengthening our region's reputation as a hub of innovation and growth," said Ms Doolan.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Cr Peter Flannery said the TAFE Centre of Excellence would create incredibly valuable educational opportunities close to home for many residents.

"Council is proud to be offering the land required to support this new TAFE, which will provide education and jobs in our rapidly growing City," Mayor Flannery said.

"We thank the Queensland Government for investing in this new TAFE, which will upskill our workforce to meet the needs of local businesses, including in our booming manufacturing industry, and provide jobs in the future."

TAFE Queensland SkillsTech General Manager Stephen Gates said securing the site was the first step toward delivering a tailored training facility across the Moreton Bay region.

"This Centre of Excellence is a game-changer for Moreton Bay, giving local people access to the advanced, hands-on training that employers are calling for," Mr Gates said.

"This purpose-built facility will be designed to meet the skills needs of today and tomorrow, driving local jobs, innovation, and economic growth."
