On Monday 12 August, the President of the Peninsula Aero Club (PAC) published a message on Facebook stating that the committee resolved to cancel the 2020 Tyabb Airshow.
The message states that "although the [Mornington Peninsula] Shire offered a new permit process, we ultimately found that it has proven unworkable". It goes on to say they ran out of "lead time'' and "we have done all we could to stretch the timeline to give the Shire space to fix the situation to no avail".
The Mornington Peninsula Shire is disappointed at the decision and will continue to support the Airshow.
Mayor Cr David Gill said our officers have met with the PAC on numerous occasions to support them to submit an application for the 2020 Airshow.
"Our planning team even developed a draft permit and offered to assist the PAC step-by-step so that this important community event could continue in 2020".
"We are ready to assess the appropriate application for the Airshow and I am saddened by the PAC's lack of commitment to make sure it continues next year".
"Our door remains open and I encourage the PAC to re-engage with us" concluded Mayor Gill.
The Mornington Peninsula Shire reiterates its support for the Airshow. It is an iconic event for the Peninsula, providing significant charitable donations for the local community and a showcase for aero enthusiasts.
