Mosman Unites To Walk Against Domestic And Family Violence

This October and November, the Mosman community will come together in two powerful walking events to raise awareness and advocate for the prevention of domestic and family violence.

Mary's House Walk - Sunday 26 October 2025

On Sunday 26 October, Mosman Mayor Ann Marie Kimber will join Mary's House Services and hundreds of community members at the annual Mary's House Walk. Starting from St Leonard's Park, North Sydney, the walk will follow a scenic 8-9km loop through Ball's Head Reserve, McMahon's Point, and Lavender Bay, returning to the park under the Mary's House blue and white banners.

"This is a very visible way that we can all stand up in support of Mary's House and the women and children it supports," said Mayor Kimber. "It's about saying no to domestic and family violence in our community and raising vital funds for critical social work and assistance programs."

The event will feature entertainment from the NSW Police Brass Band, a free sausage sizzle courtesy of local Rotary Clubs, and a strong show of solidarity from families, friends, and even pets (on leash). Registration opens at 8.30am, with the walk beginning at 9.30am.

Funds raised will support increased specialised social work hours for families in refuge, as well as expanded community programs for women and children at various stages of their domestic and family violence journey.

Walk for Women - Friday 28 November 2025

Just weeks later, on Friday 28 November, Mosman Council will host the fourth annual Walk for Women, starting at Rawson Oval at 10am. Led again by Mayor Kimber, this event is held in alignment with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November) and marks the beginning of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign.

Participants are encouraged to wear purple as a symbol of support. The walk will conclude at Marie Bashir Sports Centre, where refreshments will be served and attendees will hear from a range of speakers reflecting on the importance of community action.

The Walk for Women brings together a wide cross-section of the Mosman community, including Councillors and official guests; NSW Police and Royal Australian Navy officers from HMAS Penguin; representatives from Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, Taronga Zoo, and Rotary Club of Mosman; and domestic and family violence support services.

A United Stand

Both events serve as a reminder that domestic and family violence is a national crisis - one that demands collective action. With NSW Police responding to a domestic violence call every three minutes, and many incidents going unreported, these walks are more than symbolic - they are a call to action.

"When the community walks with us, they are walking for safety, critical care, and hope for the many vulnerable victim-survivors of domestic and family violence," says Yvette Vignando, CEO of Mary's House Services.

Whether you join one or both walks, your presence sends a powerful message: violence has no place in our homes, our communities, or our future.
