The reconstruction of Kirkham Street in Moss Vale was completed last week, making it easier for workers, students, and residents to access nearby commercial properties.
People attending TAFE, the Council Civic Centre, the Moss Vale War Memorial Aquatic Centre, Cole's Supermarket, and motorists passing through, can now fully utilise this completely renovated road and enjoy decreased travel times during peak hours.
This busy street in the Moss Vale business district is also used by motorists to bypass Moss Vale's main street. It is a two-lane sealed road with a speed limit of 50km/hr with a large traffic count including heavy vehicle usage.
The project cost of around $1.8m, was funded in majority by Transport for NSW to the tune of $1.25million and has been completed under predicted budget. The funding from Transport for NSW came from Council's successful application to the Fixing Local Roads Fund and has transformed the road pavement which was in very poor condition, along with the drainage, damaged kerb, and missing road markings.
Coordinator, Roads and Drainage Projects, Tim Wadling, said "The reconstruction was crucial for the safety and functionality of the surrounding community, and we were committed to completing them with the utmost care and attention to detail".
The construction project at hand involved a variety of tasks, including storm water pit and pipe installations, footpath and kerb construction work, and the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Kirkham Street and Mack Street. Additionally, the project required the reconstruction of road pavement and the subsequent line markings to ensure proper traffic flow.
