UR Inspiration Conference Returns

The University of New Mexico will once again co-host the UR Inspiration Undergraduate Research Conference. Alongside Florida International University, University of Texas at El Paso, California State University Long Beach, la Universidad Cuauhtémoc in Mexico and the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Argentina, the conference brings together undergraduate researchers from these institutions to share their research and learn about other's research.

The conference, which will take place on Friday, Oct. 23, is entirely virtual, free to attend and open to all at the participating universities. No registration is required for those wishing to attend. The Zoom links for each session will be posted on the UR Inspiration website on Oct. 22 and those interested in attending can access any session. Each presenter has chosen to present in either Spanish or English.

"We encourage current and future researchers to attend to gather inspiration and see how other students have found their own pathways to research," Tim Schroeder, director of the Undergraduate Research, Arts and Design Network at UNM, said.

Because of the bilingual offerings, the conference provides an opportunity for researchers in two languages to practice presenting their work in a low-stakes arena as well as an opportunity for those learning Spanish or English as a second language to work on those skills in a research context.

UR Inspiration represents a rare opportunity for undergraduates to attend an international research conference for free, removing the financial barriers that typically accompany an international conference while preserving opportunities to meet other researchers and gain feedback to help inform future work. The conference brings together students from a wide range of institutions across the Americas and provides them with opportunities to learn from and collaborate with each other.
