A motorcycle rider has been critically injured after a crash in Sydney's south-west.
Shortly after 10pm yesterday (Thursday 19 June 2025), emergency service responded to reports of a motorcycle crashing into a tree near the intersection of Goondah Street and Coolalie Street, Villawood.
Upon impact the motorcycle burst into flames.
The rider and sole occupant – a 29-year-old man – suffered serious burns. A number of nearby residents extinguished the fire on the man and rendered first aid until the arrival of emergency services.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the rider at the scene before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition where he has been placed into an induced coma.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire to the motorcycle which sustained extensive damage.
Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.
Initial inquiries have indicated that the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
