The Mount Kingsthorpe Bushland Park will reopen tomorrow (Friday, 20 June) marking the completion of the Emmanulla Drive water reservoir upgrades.
The Mount Kingsthorpe Bushland Park was temporarily closed during the construction of a $2.5 million upgrade to Kingsthorpe's critical water infrastructure successfully improving water security for the community whilst supporting the ongoing growth of the township.
The Emmanulla Drive water reservoir upgrades were partially funded by the Queensland Government under a $847,500 grant as part of the Building our Regions (BoR) program.
Toowoomba Region Deputy Mayor and Strategic Water Planning and Capital Delivery portfolio spokesperson Cr Rebecca Vonhoff said this project reflected Council's commitment to making strategic enhancements to the Region's water distribution network to ensure towns have the necessary infrastructure to cater for likely future needs.
"We have to think long-term about water for Kingsthorpe and act now for the future," Cr Vonhoff said.
The Mount Kingsthorpe Bushland Park site accessibility and the walking trail have also been revived to enhance visitor's experience.
Parks and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tim McMahon said these improvements were an exciting addition to the community favourite Mount Kingsthorpe Walk.
"The walking trail and the Mount Kingsthorpe lookout at the park have been a go to destination for walking enthusiasts for many years. I'm proud that Council has been able to improve the park's facilities and most importantly improve the overall safety of the park for generations to come," Cr McMahon said.
The Mount Kingsthorpe Bushland Park and the Emmanulla Drive water reservoir upgrades have been ongoing for the last eight months and were extended due to the extreme wet weather conditions experienced earlier this year.
Cr Vonhoff and Cr McMahon both expressed their appreciation for the community's patience and understanding whilst the upgrades were being complete.
