The Cook Labor Government is delivering its Seven Cities vision and ensuring Western Australians have access to the healthcare they need, when they need it, with ADCO Constructions appointed to deliver a new MRI suite at Hedland Health Campus.

The $22 million suite will deliver:

  • MRI scanning room;
  • control room;
  • anaesthetic preparation room;
  • plant and equipment spaces and support facilities; and
  • reception and sub-wait areas with changerooms and amenities.

When complete, the suite will be located adjacent to existing diagnostic services provided by the Hedland Health Campus Medical Imaging Department, including Computed Tomography (CT), X-ray, fluoroscopy and ultrasound.

The new facility is expected to provide more than 2,000 diagnostic tests each year to residents in South Hedland, Newman, Karratha, Dampier, Tom Price, Onslow and Paraburdoo.

ADCO Constructions were previously engaged under the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) procurement model to progress the suite's design alongside project teams and will commence construction soon on the facility.

The project forms part of the Cook Labor Government's record $5.5 billion health infrastructure pipeline, ensuring more Western Australians can access care closer to home.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"We're ensuring Pilbara residents can access world-class healthcare closer to home, with this new MRI suite to deliver vital diagnostic services in Port Hedland.

"As our regional communities continue to grow, we need to invest in the infrastructure and services that families rely on.

"That's exactly what we're doing through projects like this.

"This investment will reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for scans, helping people get answers sooner and access the care they need closer to where they live.

"It's part of our record investment in health infrastructure and our vision for Port Hedland as a strong regional hub with the services needed to support local families, workers and future growth."

As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

"The Cook Labor Government is investing a record $5.5 billion into health infrastructure, the biggest construction program Western Australia has ever seen.

"This is an exciting milestone for the people of Hedland and surrounds who will soon be able to access MRI services closer to home.

"Importantly, it follows the completion of the Step up Step down facility in Karratha, the Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment, the new Laverton Hospital and the new Mullewa Hospital."

As stated by Pilbara Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"Every Western Australian should have access to quality healthcare close to home regardless of where they live.

"Today's announcement is a major investment in the Pilbara community that will deliver world class health infrastructure to this important region."

As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

"Our Cook Labor Government is focused on ensuring our regional communities can access essential care and services on Country and closer to home.

"This latest diagnostic technology will support the team at Hedland Health Campus to deliver high-quality health care to our Pilbara region, now and in years to come."
