Homicide Squad detectives have this afternoon charged a man in relation to a fatal assault in Maffra on Monday.
A 45-year-old Maffra man has been charged with one count of murder.
He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
The charge follows an incident where emergency services responded to reports of a man found unresponsive at a Mills Street address about 12pm on Monday, 19 January.
The 63-year-old Maffra man was treated at the scene but was unable to be revived.
Police believe the parties involved were known to each other.
