Murramarang Road upgrade due for October completion

Work to repair a major section of Murramarang Road in Bawley Point is now scheduled for completion by the end of October 2023.

Rehabilitation works on the 800-metre stretch have been progressing under contract since March with geotechnical and construction challenges impacting the delivery of the project that was initially forecast for completion in July. Council is now accelerating the completion of the program using its road construction unit.

Mayor Amanda Findley said the next six weeks would be a major focus for Council as the road construction unit puts every effort into completing this key corridor for the Bawley Point community.

"With the northbound lane complete between Binnowee Place and Weemala Crescent, our road crew is committed to ensuring the south bound lane is finished in the coming weeks," said Cr Findley.

"This project has taken significantly longer than expected and we thank the community for their patience. Council is applying all available resources to complete these road works so that residents can drive safely and smoothly on this critical piece of infrastructure," she said.

Geotechnical investigations, revised construction methods and construction challenges have led to a Council decision to replace the contract resources with the more heavily resourced Council roads construction unit.

Council mobilised to site on Monday on the southbound lane between Binnowee Place and Weemala Crescent. The final layer of road-base will be placed prior to sealing the road early next month.

Works will then continue further south utilising a different pavement design which will greatly speed up progress on site.

The project involves the full rehabilitation of Murramarang Road from just north of Binnowee Place, to 150m south of Wonnawong Place and is being funded under the State Government's Fixing Local Roads Program.
